The first in that series is The Tomb (Adversary Cycle, #2) which (as noted) is also the 2nd book in Wilson's Adversary Cycle. It is lighter and faster reading than the Dark Tower, but enjoyable. Paul Wilson's Repairman Jack series, and as you read along it becomes clear that Repairman Jack and others are fighting to defend against the end of the world as we know it. I have them on loan from the library, and have heard great things about the series. I'm planning on reading Dan Simmons Hyperion very soon, along with the other 3 in the series. I really loved that book when I read it way back when and re-read it recently. Robert McCammon wrote a post-apocalyptic novel compared to The Stand called Swan Song. I found the road-map on the internet a few years ago and have updated the text a bit to correct typos and such.
